As we slowly approach the year end, there's always this one burning question in every Singaporean that long to get away from the hectic daily life. "When would be a good time to travel next year?"  If you have not seen the gazetted list of public holidays in 2018 released by the Ministry of Manpower, we summarise the list for you right here: We suppose there's nothing to be too happy about since out of the eleven public holidays, only four falls on a possible long weekend. New Year's Day: 1 January 2018 Long weekend: Saturday to Monday Chinese New Year: 16 to 17 February 2018 Long weekend: Friday to Sunday Good Friday: 20 March 2018 Long weekend: Friday to Sunday Hari Raya Puasa: 15 June 2018 Long weekend: Friday to Sunday We're quite exasperated by the fact that six of those public holidays falls in the middle of the week 😒  But fret not, we'll show you how to cheat your way through and expand your four days of long wee

HALAL SERIES: We tried the newly halal-certified restaurant in Botanic Gardens, The Halia

Image
Source: The Halia We went to The Halia and tried out their newly halal-certified (just last May!) all-day dining menu. Here's what we think. The Halia is located at Singapore's Botanical Gardens, in the middle of lush foliage, about an 18-min walk from the Botanic Gardens MRT Station. We know, an 18-min walk sounds a tad bit exasperating but hey, good food awaits you on the other side, we promise! Just enjoy the walk in the garden itself until you find yourself in Ginger Garden (because 'halia' in Malay translates to 'ginger' in English). The restaurant features the main dining hall called the Dining Room as well as two al-fresco dining area called Viewing Decks. Both the interior and exterior of the restaurant are contributing factors to our whole experience at The Halia. We can only imagine how it is in the evening 😍 We started off with the Deepfried salt & chilli squid with spring onion, ginger-lime syrup and piquant mayo (S$15).

Happy #IcecreamMonth: 10 places to get your sweet tooth fixed

Happy Ice Cream Month! This would be the list for you if you're a sweet tooth, and need a list you can keep for you to refer to whenever your sweet tooth acts up. Allow us to be your dentist, read on! 1. Creamery Boutique Ice Creams Source: @estheerlyh Ice-cream on top of an oozing lava cookie? We'd say yes, please! We love that this dessert is not too sickly sweet, we like things well balanced. Watching the friendly waiters 'piak' your scoop of ice-cream down on the cookie is a sight to behold. Did we tell you they also have a salted egg lava cookie version?  Address: 139 Tyrwhitt Road #01-03 Singapore 207557  Price: $ $$$$ Web:  https://www.facebook.com/creamerysg/ 2. Meet & Melt  Source: Meet & Melt We recommend sharing this big plate of dessert, especially when you're having a toast for one! Unless you're a big eater, of course, we don't judge 😀 For some reason we love all things lava, cut through the toast to reve

4 good reasons why you should dress up when getting on a plane

Image
Dressing up may not be the number one thing you would prioritise when getting on board, but we believe otherwise. Of course, dressing up doesn't always call for suits or cocktail dresses, but looking presentable (and maybe smelling nice too) always pays off. Who knows? You might just get upgraded. 1. More pleasant for the flight attendants Source: Straits Times Think about it — aeroplanes are work places for these flight attendants, imagine waiting on someone who's dressed sloppily with a poor sense of hygiene. We believe that looking presentable and hygienic is a simple form of mutual respect, not only to the flight attendants but also to everyone around you. What more, it speaks volumes about yourself as a person too, that brings us to the next point: 2. Feel good about yourself! Ditch the sweats and shorts, put on a nice shirt and jeans. Put on sneakers or boots (helps a little bit if you wear compression socks too!). Ditch the flip flops. Get on

8 nifty things that you need on your next flight that will make you feel like you're on First Class

Going on a flight soon? This list might be handy to you to ensure you've got everything you might need for a restful flight. 1. Portable Power Bank Source: mi.com A power bank is essential when traveling, of course. We hate the fact that most power banks with larger charging power are also big in size. We recommend the Mi Power Bank, although small in size (business card size!), this power bank packs a punch. Get your own on the website , from S30. 2. Face Mask Source: innisfree We all know pressurised cabins spells stuffy and dry air. Everything's about to change when you pack yourself a soothing and hydrating face mask to pamper yourself on the flight! We recommend the innisfree coconut bio-cellulose mask to keep your skin moisturised all day. Grab yours from innisfree retail outlets or on the website , S$5.50. 3. Noise-cancelling Earphones Source: Audio Technica Noise-cancelling earphones is a must for when you need to enjoy your mu
